Fluoride in drinking water

drinking water from the tap

Back in 2013 (goodness how time flies) I published an article in the Montreal Gazette about the benefits of fluoride in drinking water. http://www.montrealgazette.com/health/opinion+opposition+fluoridated+wat...

I got the typical amount of hate mail but then to my surprise the Gazette published a rebuttal the next day, which was surprising because I didn't know anyone was reading my articles. My favorite line in the piece was this one: "It's hard for ordinary lay people, such as myself, to know where the truth lies in this extremely controversial question." Yup. That's it exactly. I don't pretend to know how to fix my car or how my computer works (for all I know a tiny gremlin in there is flicking switches every time I google something). But I do know science and medicine and at the end of the day, putting fluoride in drinking water reduces cavities. Also fluoride won't give you cancer.

Most of Ontario does put fluoride in their water. Most of Quebec does not. Since the article, not much has changed but another editorial in the Montreal Gazette sent me down memory lane and inspired this little bit of nostalgia. http://montrealgazette.com/opinion/opinion-its-time-for-montreal-to-fluo...

It seems like we're going to keep revisiting this issue every so often, so I'll keep my notes handy for next time.
